Frizzy hair care – Dry & brittle hair need extra care!!

August 19, 2008

Most women want smooth, silky hair; however, one of the most common hair problems facing women is dry, frizzy and unmanageable hair. Frizzy hair is basically under-moisturized hair that has become very porous and lost its ability to retain its natural moisture. The main cause of this, if not the genetic, is cuticle damage in its layers. One of the possible factors of frizzy hair is excessive exposure to humidity in the climate as this can cause coarseness and damage to hair over a prolonged period. A smart hair care remedy to beat this frizziness it to use products that contain silicone to control the untamed look of dry hair.

Simple Tips to Avoid frizziness:

Frizzy hair often requires a leave-in conditioner to help smooth and straighten loose fly away. It can be frustrating to style frizzy hair so a specially designed hair conditioner can be helpful. Curly or frizzy hair can often be very hard to manage. Harder still is trying to turn your frizzy, curly hair into a smooth, straight and silky looking hairdo.

• Avoid compulsively touching or brushing your hair through the day and always uses a wide-toothed comb when necessary or simply finger comb for more manageability.

• Do not wash your hair everyday. Allow the natural oil from your hair to come out. The natural oil in your hair will reduce frizz.

• Shampoo and conditioner should be chosen wisely. Dry hair requires moisture so select a moisturizing and balancing shampoo. There are special conditioners specially formulated for frizzy hair. Leave-in conditioners which come in the form of serum can also be used.

• Deep condition once a week with products intended for frizzy hair, containing intense hydrating agents like aloe vera, vitamin E and panthenol, which is a vitamin-B-based moisturizer.

• For smooth and nourished hair, diet should be rich in Vitamin B. Wheat gram, green vegetables and fresh fruits have these essential vitamins needed for smooth and manageable hair.

• Styling aids like hot irons, curling rods and blow drying should be cut down to the minimum as they can really make hair dull and frizzy. They also lead to split ends especially in women who have long hair.

• Hair should be washed with tepid water and not very hot. Extreme hot water tends to strip the hair of its essential natural oil.

• Another way to stop frizzy hair is the use of a frizz control product. This is not a shampoo or conditioner but is designed especially for frizzy hair. They come in several forms. Serums, careful not too much, and gels are a lot easier to apply. Tri makes an aerosol spray called Aero–straight which is much less messy.

• A good cut is very important to control frizzy hair. A blunt cut is usually best. If you need a more textured look ask your stylist to point cut it. Avoid the use of thinning shears or razor cutting. Thinning shears crush the ends of your hair and razors slice the ends giving frizzes a place to start. If your hair is too thick ask your stylist to layer it to remove bulk and improve manageability.

• Avoid using products that are rich in moisture. The moisture fills the cuticle, blocking water from oozing and causes swelling of hair.

• Do not use hair products with alcohol ingredients in it. They can dry one’s hair and make frizzes worse.

Summary:

Most importantly you should remember that frizzy or brittle hair is dry hair. Your hair needs water to remain silky and smooth. Constant colouring, blow-drying and treatments can all contribute to frizzy hair. Believe it or not, a bad hair cut can contribute to frizzy hair too. Be sure you let your stylist know you want to control frizz. To control frizzy hair, it is important to use the correct shampoo and conditioner, preferably one recommended by your hair stylist after he or she has studied you hair type. There is a common misconception that keeping hair continuously oiled makes it less dry, brittle and frizzy.
